A frosty morning in Frinsted

This one of those beautiful Autumn events - a bright clear frosty morning with beautifully clear light. Taken with a Canon EOS 20D and a 10 - 22mm lens.

This image suffers through being in such a wide format as I am limited to 700 pixels width to display it. It was shot on a winter's afternoon and I was standing at the edge of the A2 dual- carriageway trying to set up my camera on a tripod whilst simultaneously avoiding being sucked under the wheels of the traffic by the slipstream of French juggernauts! Ah! the quiet and tranquility of the Kent countryside........

Morning fog over Herne Hill, Faversham

This was an incredible morning when the landscape went from being completely covered in fog, with nothing visible except for the church, to a point where it was completely clear in under 5 minutes - very much a case of "blink and you missed it!" The puff of smoke in the sky is the Grain power station over on the Hoo peninsular.

There is a very restrained purple duo-toning in the photograph to try to convey the cold and dankness in the air.

This was shot just outside Canterbury on one of those days in February when it really wanted to snow - but just could not be bothered! I have toned a black and white conversion to emphasize the cold

This a straight print, converted to B&W i Photoshop. I used curves layers to emphasise the line of shadow.

A grey day in winter - not uncommon on these marshes in North Kent! A straightforward conversion to B&W in Photoshop and some tweaking of levels.

Straw bales waiting, Rodmersham

Difficult to resist these architectural shapes which suddenly appear in the fields for only a short time each year! I like the lines that the juxtaposition of these four form.

Birches, Church Wood, Blean

This is one of what could become a series on this theme - I so like the air of calm and serenity about it. Shot after dusk with 10 seconds exposure it has been worked on a lot in Photoshop to bring out the tones - at least 6 separate curves layers, for instance. Converted to B&W and then toned using the colour balance tool +10R and -10Y in the shadow and +10B in the highlight, for those who are interested
